Flying a drone can be an exciting and thrilling experience, especially when you're on vacation and eager to capture stunning drone footage.
But don't make the same mistake I did.
Now, before I pack my drone, I make sure to research and understand the local drone regulations to avoid any legal issues.
In this blog post, I'll focus on flying a drone outside of the USA, specifically in Sint Maarten, an island in the Caribbean known for its beautiful beaches, clear waters, and lively nightlife.
First things first, it's important to know that Sint Maarten has two airports, the Princess Juliana International Airport and the Grand Case-Espérance Airport. This means that there are really only a couple of locations were you can fly your done - safely away from the airports and from the hustle and bustle of the island.
I'll attach a copy of what the drone map looks like for the island. And you'll see how limited the approved areas are for flight.
I was lucky enough to fly on both the French side, and the Dutch side of the island. As a fair warning, the Dutch side includes a port for cruse ships - so it is absolutely busy beyond belief.
Flying a drone in Sint Maarten can be an incredible experience if done responsibly and in accordance with local regulations. By researching and understanding the rules and restrictions beforehand, you can avoid any legal issues and capture breathtaking footage of this beautiful island.
Tell me, where should I fly next?
